Virtual High Temperature Conversion Processes - Virtuhcon
The Centre for Innovation Competence at the Technical University Freiberg was established in 2009 based on the combined initiative of 8 institutes covering different research areas (computer science, mathematics, fluid mechanics, gas and heat technology, material science, process engineering).
The centre focuses on the modelling and the simulation of high temperature conversion processes such as coal gasification and combustion.
Three research groups with more than 20 researchers investigate the complete process starting from feedstock characterization and heterogeneous kinetics (multi-phase-systems group) to the detailed description of heat, mass and momentum transfer in boundary layer flows around particles (interphase phenomena group) and finally the modelling and simulation of the multi-phase turbulent reacting flow in the reactor. The combination of the results from all three groups leads to the virtualisation of complete process. This virtualisation based on fundamental research is used in the process development and optimization.
The Virtuhcon centre hosts and organizes this meeting to bring together researchers from the fields combustion and gasification to discuss state-of-art modelling approaches and simulation results. It is meant to highlight possibilities of common approaches and aims at establishing a closer collaboration between both fields.
